This calculator automatically produce tables of heart rate, swim speed and estimated lactate levels for swimmers based on their current performance level.
It uses formulas based on the results of international champions and Jan Olbrecht's book Science of Winning*. These values are theoretical and must be adapted to each swimmer.
Times over 200 m and 400 m are optional but help refine endurance and lactate estimates. To determine stroke rate and distance per stroke, count the number of cycles on one length (ideally one of the last three of a 400 m swim). The first distance is the pool length used for the count, the total distance is the distance covered during the test (ideally the 400 m) and the time is the time achieved over that distance.
(*) This tool is not affiliated with Jan Olbrecht and does not replace lactate analysis or the software developed by him. For more information see lactate.com.
